The new Anzac Hall

In the third issue of WM, the Australian War Memorial’s magazine, we open the doors to the newly unveiled spaces of Anzac Hall and explore the stories, objects, and experiences that shape Australia’s military history from the First World War to the present day.

This edition celebrates the opening of the Anzac Atrium and refurbished Aircraft Hall, alongside a series of new permanent galleries and exhibitions developed in close collaboration with veteran communities and Memorial staff over more than six years.

Highlights include:

  • The return of iconic collection items, including the Mural of Australian Military Aircraft and G for George.
  • New galleries exploring Australian peacekeeping operations, the Middle East conflicts from 1990, and the war in Afghanistan.
  • Stories behind major displays including the bridge from HMAS Brisbane, the RF-111C jet aircraft, the Chinook helicopter, the battle of Milne Bay, the Sydney–Emden battle, and the midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour.
